Berkeley Historical Society On Fri Mar 20 1942, 3 Hink’s Department Store staff were pictured with a boxy “portable fire wagon” designed to be wheeled to the site of any incendiary bomb attacks.

2 years ago, when working to modify a development project in the Le Conte neighborhood where I live, some of us realized that a nationally important event had taken place there.

Now, back to local history 75 years ago.

This would be the 4th mass registration of a draft program that began in 1940.
